As a Primary Department, it is our desire to be Christ – centered in our teaching, learning and interactions with each other. We strive to provide an open and caring learning community where all students feel safe and cared for, and to function as a family where all students, regardless of their age or ability, feel accepted and included.
WITS is a literature rich programme that uses children’s stories to teach students social skills and how to work through social conflict. Students in K-3 learn to Walk Away, Ignore, Talk it out and Seek help.
Math U See begins in Kindergarten and progressively builds throughout the Primary Grades with a strong emphasis on place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication. Spell to Write and Read is a multisensory phonemic approach to Language Arts that progresses from learning phonograms to spelling and then reading.
Primary teachers connect with parents and families through use their classroom blogs. The blogs are used to keep parents informed of upcoming activities, keep them up to date on classroom learning and to post pictures of some of the memories of school life that are made in the classrooms and on fieldtrips.
Highroad Academy provides opportunities for students to have fun serving through activities such as Service Day, Salvation Army Food Drive, Missions Fundraisers, Garden Projects and Campus Wide Garbage Pick up. These are all ways that our youngest students can learn the value of serving.
