At Highroad Academy, we believe that we are called to train children in the way they should go. (Proverbs 22:6) Our school motto challenges us to live, teach, and learn above and beyond. This is reflected in the passion that our teachers share in teaching all subjects from a Biblical world view. The Bible addresses all aspects of our learning and evidence of this is reflected in our classrooms, bulletin boards and hallways.
A unique feature of our elementary school is to maintain consistency of programs between the grades. Our language arts program is built on a central program called Spell to Write and Read (SWR). Christian students need to know the powerful effect language can have. They need to know how to communicate in a way that is effective, God-honouring, and that enhances their relationships. SWR enables us to deliver a solid Language Arts program that develops skills in reading (oral and silent), writing, penmanship, listening, speaking, phonics and study skills (gathering and organizing information).
- A second consistent program that we are developing is the area of Mathematics. Currently, we are implementing a program called Math-U-See. It is the core that drives our math program. The strength of this program lies in teaching our children the why of math and not just the how. We believe that math is based on God's creation. He created the world with a specific order and design.
- As we teach our students to honour God through their understanding of all He has created, we believe that we are equipping them to be successful in all the plans He has declared for them.
