Last year, in our inaugural season of senior boys’ soccer at Highroad
Academy the boys lost a close game 1-0 in the semi-finals of the Fraser Valley Championship against the eventual
provincial champions, Saint John
Brebeuf. This second year
began with high hopes of a berth at this year’s
Provincial
Championships and the expectation of contending for a provincial title
The boys
sputtered early in the season
trying to find their form, but finished the regular season with some
impressive
victories over some strong teams. The boys ended up third at the Fraser Valley
Championships and advanced to the Provincial Championships.
At Provincials, we had a record of 2 wins and 1 tie in the preliminary round tied with Bodwell from Vancouver on points, head to head record, and goal
differential. We had one more scored against us and that sent
Bodwell through to the medal round where they lost 1-0 in the final. We lost our next game in a shoot-out and then won our final game 4-1 over Kelowna Christian to finish 7th overall.
Ben Loewen was named to the “The Commissioner's 11 Team” which
recognizes players from around the
province for their skill, leadership and contribution to their team. The
performance and attitude of all our boys this season was exemplary.
